The CLYLP Sacramento Leadership Conference provides a life-changing experience for high school students with the help of a special team of volunteers. Serving as conference Facilitators, Peer Counselors and Support Staff, these exceptional individuals commit to spending one full week in Sacramento mentoring and sharing their talents with students, making a significant impact on the students’ lives. CLYLP seeks energetic volunteers from various backgrounds and experiences to guide and shape 120 of California’s future leaders. CLYLP alumni are especially welcomed to re-connect with the CLYLP familia by volunteering as a conference staff member.
STAFF APPLICATIONS
Volunteers must apply to join SLC staff. CLYLP selects highly qualified candidates based on their personal background, mentoring experience, and their desire and willingness to share their knowledge and experience with students. Staff applications are typically available in March or April of each year.
SACRAMENTO LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE DATES
The 2013 Sacramento Leadership Conference will take place from Saturday, July 20 to Saturday, July 27. All volunteer staff are required to arrive in Sacramento by the evening of Thursday, July 18, 2013, to complete a mandatory orientation and training session. Persons selected to become SLC staff members will be given further information about their specific roles and duties during the conference.
LOCATION
Volunteers are housed at California State University, Sacramento, and all activities take place in the City of Sacramento. Transportation to and from Sacramento is provided by CLYLP.
COMMITMENT AND REQUIREMENTS
The main responsibility of conference staff is to supervise and ensure the safety of the SLC’s 120 high school participants. Staff members are required to participate in all conference activities and must commit to attend for the full nine days of the conference. Volunteers will complete one day of training prior to the start of the conference.
ELIGIBLITY
The eligibility requirements vary by position. Please read the application instructions for each position available below.
CONFERENCE STAFF POSITIONS AND APPLICATIONS
There are three types of staff positions available for adults and alumni of all ages. Â
Facilitators
Facilitators serve as group leaders to ten conference participants. As group leader, the Facilitator supervises his/her assigned students and peer counselor for the entire week of the conference. The most important role of the Facilitator is to be a positive role model and resource person to all student participants.
Peer Counselors
Peer Counselors assist in the supervision of 10 conference participants. In assisting the Facilitator, the Peer Counselor monitors the specific location of all assigned students and expedites and helps coordinate travel between conference sessions/activities. The most important role of the peer counselor is to be a positive role model for all student participants.
**The Peer Counselor position is open to only CLYLP Sacramento Leadership Conference Alumni.
Support Staff
Under the general direction of the Conference Coordinator, the Support Staff serves as the support network for conference logistics such as the store (La Tiendita), deliveries between presentation hall and dorm, airport transportation, store runs, and much more. The most important role of a Support Staff member is to be a positive role model and reliable worker. The position is open to anyone. Alumni are highly encouraged to apply.
APPLICATION TIMELINE
Applications for the 2013 Sacramento Leadership Conference Staff positions must be submitted via email to staff-selection@clylp.org by Friday, May 3, 2013. Persons applying for the Facilitator position must include a resume.
Applicants will be notified of the status of their application by June.
