In the summer of 2020, The CLYLP Comcast Fellowship celebrates its 11th year of providing CLYLP undergrad alumni an opportunity to learn more about California state government and the dynamics of public policy!
CLYLP Fellows will have the opportunity to engage key leaders in various sectors of California's life and culture. Site visits and informal gatherings will be provided through the month-long program designed to build community and expand the fellows' leadership and support network.
2019 CLYLP COMCAST FELLOWSHIP DATES:
Wednesday, July 15th – Saturday, August 15th
LOCATION: Sacramento, California
WHAT THE FELLOWSHIP OFFERS
Fellows will each receive a scholarship of $3,000 for the four-week period; these funds will be provided in four (4) installments as part of successful completion of components of the program.
Each fellow will be placed in a legislative office in Sacramento for four (4) weeks and will be assigned mentors to support their work.
ACADEMIC & LEADERSHIP TRAINING
The fellows will receive exposure to a leadership curriculum that includes a focus on the inner workings of California government, the factors influencing policymakers and current and future policy issues facing California taught by academic faculty and leaders within the state.
REGIONAL GOVERNMENT & CALIFORNIA POLICY TRIPS
Fellows will travel to other regions of California on certain weekends and weekdays during the fellowship to study pressing issues facing a specific geographical region of California, learn about California's technology sector and other aspects of California government.
CLYLP Comcast Fellows will have the opportunity to volunteer one morning at a local Sacramento non-profit to help learn about community involvement and giving of time and skills.
-Have completed, at minimum, one year of college and be returning to their studies as a full-time undergraduate at an accredited college or university. Recent university graduates or alumni pursuing their Master’s Degrees or PhDs are not eligible to participate.
-Have completed one of CLYLP's high school leadership programs: Sacramento Leadership Conference, Central Valley Institute (formerly San Joaquin), Bay Area Institute or the Los Angeles Institute.
- Have demonstrated leadership in their community since participating in a CLYLP high school leadership program.
- Commit to being in Sacramento through the duration of the Fellowship and fulfill all the requirements of the program. Weekend travel outside of the Fellowship program within these dates is prohibited and will only be approved on a case-by-case basis if discussed and approved prior to the start of the fellowship program.
